Chapter Nine is the ninth chapter in My Immortal, and the one where the Dark Lord himself makes his first appearance. It is also where the main conflict of the story is introduced.

Ebony, having believed Draco was cheating on her with Vampire, has fled into the Forbidden Forest, where she cries against a tree. Suddenly a man with red eyes and no nose appears on a broomstick - it's Voldemort himself! He casts an Imperius curse on Ebony, locking her in place. Ebony counters with a Crookshanks curse, making Voldemort scream in pain and fall off his broomstick. Despite the fact she was on the verge of killing the Dark Lord, Ebony stops, saying, "I felt bad for him even though I’m a sadist."

Having recovered, Voldemort tells Ebony that she must kill Vampire, or he will kill Draco. During this demand, Ebony realizes that it might have indeed been that Draco and Vampire had been together in the past, but were now broken up. Voldemort gives Ebony a gun, fleeing the scene on his broomstick.

Draco then arrives, and Ebony apologizes for getting irrationally upset. The two return to Hogwarts, making out as they go.
