Japan is a country in Asia, and is a minor theme in My Immortal.

Role in the story[]

The character of Professor Sinister/Trevolry (who seems to be an amalgamation of Professors Sinistra and Trelawney) is half-Japanese, though it is unknown which of her parents is the Japanese one.

B'loody Mary Smith also speaks Japanese despite not having any Japanese heritage (as far as we know). While it's possible that Hermione Granger, who B'loody Mary was based upon, would learn Japanese out of intellectual curiosity due to her studious personality, B'loody Mary is highly out-of-character, so maybe she's just a weeaboo.

Like most things in My Immortal, Japanese is very badly written, with the word "kawai" being used multiple times. "Kawai" is most likely a misspelling of "kawaii", (meaning cute) or possibly (but less likely) "kowai", (meaning scary). Alternatively, this is just a type of piano. B'loody Mary's greeting "Hajimemashite gurl," (gurl is not a Japanese word) being translated as, "How do you do?", when it actually means, "Pleased to meet you", is another example of this multilingual butchering of everything Tara touches.
