A narrative Point of View the viewpoint from which a story is told.[1] My Immortal is told in the first person (which refers to the main character as "I") past tense (from Ebony's point of view - most of the time. In some fanfics, authors will put "[Character name] POV/pov" before a chapter, even when simply stating the character's name would suffice. There are some exceptions to Ebondy's narration:
- In Chapter Eight, the narrative briefly dips into Draco's point of view for a bit.[2]
- In Chapter Thirty-Seven, it shifts to "DARKO’S PONT OF VIEW LOL" again, only to switch to either Willow or Vampire's point of view for a single, inexplicable, sentence.[3] It then (presumably) returns to Ebony's point of view. After a few paragraphs, it shifts to second person (!) for a couple sentences, before reverting to first person in the middle of the second sentence. [4]
- Midway through Chapter Thirty-Nine, while Ebony is dying, the point of view shifts to third person omniscient for the rest of the chapter.
Thankfully, Tara doesn't experiment with point of view beyond this.

He dumped me because he liked Britney, a stupid preppy f*cker. We were just good friends now. He had gone through horrible problems, and now he was gothic. (Haha, like I would hang out with a prep.)
