Since I have too much free time on my hands, I am going to compare and score each My Immortal canon character to their Harry Potter counterparts. The score will be based on both the role of the character and their behavior. For example: if a character is a teacher in both My Immortal and Harry Potter and teach the same subject, they will score high on the Role department.
The grades are as follows:
Plucked straight from canon!: This rating goes to characters who resemble their canon counterparts to such a degree, they might as well be directly transplanted from the original series.
Something's off: Awarded to characters who are only slightly tainted by My Immortal, but can be recognized as their canon-counterparts.
I don't know you anymore!: For characters tainted in such a way (geddit? Way as in Gerard Way) that they are no longer themselves, but still have something linking them to their canon counterparts.
In Name Only: These characters only borrow the name of their canon counterparts and have nothing in common.
In this list, I will go from A to D. Without further ado, lets begin.
Serious Blak
Role
He is described as Harry "Vampire" Potter's "Dogfather", which is a role he shared with his original counterpart. Not much seems to contradict his role in canon. 4/4
Behavior
Horribly OOC. Is friends with blood supremacist Lucian Malfoy and with Snap, happily tortures people and is turned into a goff. 1/4
Verdict
2.5/4: Something's Off
While his personality is utterly destroyed, his role in the story, as Harry's surrogate father still stays intact.
Crab and Goyle
Here is a weird one. They are probably meant to be Fred and George, but since Fred and Gorge are mentioned in the final chapter, I will treat this duo as Crabbe and Goyle.
Role
They are Slytherin students who always appear in a duo. Just like their canon counterparts. However, they inexplicably are related to Ron "Diabolo" and Jenny "Darkness" Weasley. Nothing else is described for them. So 3/4
Personality
The originals where pretty much characterized as dumb brutes who follow Draco Malfoy to do his dirty work. In My Immortal, they are almost never seen near Draco. They also make jokes and light fireworks, while the originals weren't really known for their sense of humor. They certainly didn't crossdress. But since they don't appear much, the haven't had the chance to really go OOC. Therefore, I award them a 2/4
Verdict
2.5/4: Something's Off
The average score makes them fall between Something's Off and I don't know you anymore!. Since they don't really appear much, I give them the benefit of the doubt and allow them to get away with just something being off.
That Tara mixed them up with Fred and George seems very obvious, however.
Dobby
Role
Since it isn't explicitly mentioned what Dobby is, one can assume him to be a house-elf working at Hogwarts, just like the original. 4/4
Behavior
Simply runs away while crying after seeing Snap and Loopin do it in the open. As it isn't described why he runs away, it can be open to interpretation. One interpretation is that he was shocked at seeing Snap and Loopin do it, which is probably how the real Dobby would react. 4/4!
Verdict
4/4: Plucked straight from canon!
There really is not much to work with for Dobby to determine how OOC he may or may not have become. So he might as well be the original Dobby who managed to get lost the My Immortal universe...
Role
Is a hogwarts student from Slytherin, while the original was sorted into Gryffindor. 3/4
Behavior
Completely unrecognizable. The original Neville was a bit of a bumbler who frequently got bullied by Draco, Crabbe and Goyle. He later grew a backbone and was one of the most important fighters in the war against Voldemort. Here, he is friends with Draco, Crab and Goyle and appears to be one of the standard emo goffic characters who only exists to fill the ranks of the goffs. 1/4
Verdict
2/4: I don't know you anymore!
This character is ultimately stripped of everything that made the original memorable. But he is at least still a student, so pick what you can get...
Albert Dumblydore
Role
He is stated to be the principal of Hogwarts. While the original is stated to be the Headmaster, I will give this the benefit of the doubt, as both mean he is in charge of Hogwarts. However, he does get demoted to Deviation teacher by Doris Rumbridge; a position he never had in canon. 3/4
Behavior
This guy is completely unrecognizable from his canon counterpart. The original was known to be the calm and serene beacon of hope for those opposed to Voldemort. This guy is a loose cannon who swears at students, leaves them at the mercy of Voldemort and doesn't seem to have any form of control over the conflict with Voldemort whatsoever. The original Dumbledore also never turned into a goth to appease a group of students at Hogwarts. 1/4
Verdict
2/4: I don't know you anymore!
The only thing Dumblydore has in common with Dumbledore is being in charge of Hogwarts. And even that is ruined with him being demoted to Deviation teacher.
Final score
