My Immortal Wiki

Since I have too much free time on my hands, I am going to compare and score each My Immortal canon character to their Harry Potter counterparts. The score will be based on both the role of the character and their behavior. For example: if a character is a teacher in both My Immortal and Harry Potter and teaches the same subject, they will score high on the Role department.

The grades are as follows:

Plucked straight from canon!: This rating goes to characters who resemble their canon counterparts to such a degree, they might as well be directly transplanted from the original series.

Something's off: Awarded to characters who are only slightly tainted by My Immortal, but can be recognized as their canon-counterparts.

I don't know you anymore!: For characters tainted in such a way (geddit? Way as in Gerard Way) that they are no longer themselves, but still have something linking them to their canon counterparts.

In Name Only: These characters only borrow the name of their canon counterparts and have nothing in common.

In this list, I will go from N to S. I will only analyze half of characters sorted in S in this list, as there are many of them. The following part will include the final half of characters starting with S. Without further ado, let’s begin.

Mr Norris and Filch the Cat[]

Role[]

The janitor of Hogwarts and his cat. The original was the caretaker instead of janitor, but this is essentially the same thing, so I'll give this a pass. However, their names are switched, which subtracts a point. 3/4

Behavior[]

Both Mr Norris and Argus Filch are ill-tempered towards the students. But Mr Norris does deviate from Filch, by randomly being happy when Sirius and Lucian are saved by Dumbledore and then go to the other extreme when allying with a known Death Deeler. 3/4

Verdict[]

3/4: Something's off

Mr Norris and Filch the Cat are almost the same character as Argus Filch and Mrs Norris, albeit with their names switched. Their behavior is a bit odd at times, but not by much. While Argus Filch would never openly ally himself with a Death Eater, he does ally himself with nasty people whenever it enables him to mistreat the students. Case in point is his alliance with Umbridge.

Da Norse[]

I am not going to compare her to Madame Pomfrey, as da Norse is only mentioned and doesn't even appear.

Harry "Vampire" Potter[]

Role[]

A Hogwarts student in the same year as Draco, Hermione and Ron, like the original. He is also mentioned to have a scar on his head. Like his original counterpart, Voldemort wanting him dead is a major plot point. He loses a point because he is in Slytherin, instead of Gryffindor. 3/4

Personality[]

Who even is this guy? Almost every admirable trait Harry Potter had in the books is sucked out of him. Ironic, since he is named after a blood-sucking creature. 1/4

Verdict[]

2/4: I don't know you anymore!

It is his role where you can only vaguely see he is meant to be Harry Potter, but that barely saves him from sitting in the In Name Only category.

James Samaro Potter[]

Role[]

Harry's father and a student of Hogwarts who's friends with Sirius in the past. He loses points for being friends with Lucian, Snap and even Voldemort/Tom Satan Bombodil. 2/4

Behavior[]

He is just as bad as his son in terms of OOCness. To name a few things: Is Goffic and plays in a Goffic band. 1/4

Verdict[]

1.5/4: I don't know you anymore!

He just barely escaped the In Name Only award by being Harry's father.

Doris Rumbridge[]

Another one I looked forward to comparing. This time because the My Immortal version actually seems more likable, which isn't that hard, given Umbridge's track record.

Role[]

Is employed by the Mystery of Magic. While her role in the Mystery isn't specified, she appears to be close to Cornelia Fudge, like Umbridge was to Cornelius. She later appears to control Hogwarts, like her original counterpart did. 4/4

Behavior[]

Is one of the very few people, the other being Cornelia Fudge, to proactively wanting to deal with the Voldemort situation. Like Fudge, Rumbridge is the one advising Dumblydore on how to deal with it, explicitly fearing for the lives of the students. She also yells at almost every occasion. The original was pretty much an opportunist who abuses every situation to get the best out of it herself. Umbridge was also known for rarely raising her voice, instead talking in what was described as a dangerously sweet voice. Another difference is that she appears to be the one who released Dumblydore from Abkhazian, while the original Umbridge wanted to put him securely behind bars. It is also perfectly understandable that she would banish Profesor Sinister to Azerbaijan, as Sinister actively promotes self-harm and openly shows a drug addiction to her class, which is just a no go as a teacher... 1/4

Verdict[]

2/4: I don't know you anymore!

If she had the chance, Rumbridge might have been one of the unsung heroes of My Immortal, given how she actually wants to stop Voldemort, instead of waiting in vain before "chosen one" Enoby decides to do something. It is also awfully nice of her to release the weak, old and very ill Dumblydore from Azerbaijan. Since the words "Nice" and "Umbridge" should never be used in relation to each other, this is pretty much a different character. Her position in the Mystery/Ministry is what keeps her in I don't know you anymore!

Sedric[]

According to an Author's note, Hargrid is meant to be Cedric, which should oblige me to compare the two. However, since nothing, apart from that one author's note, suggests Hargrid is Cedric, I won't do it. In fact, Snaketail was described as having killed Sedric, while Hargrid still appears afterwards so I don't believe Hargrid is Cedric.

Professor Slutborn[]

Role[]

The Hogwarts Portentz master during the past. 4/4

Behavior[]

He is described as a long haired and tall Goffic man and uses profanity, while the original Slughorn was a short, bald and amicable man. His appearance in My Immortal was too short to see how much the fanfic tainted him. 2/4

Verdict[]

3/4: Something's off

He only got such a high score because of his small role and him teaching the exact same subject as Slughorn did to exactly the same generation of people.

Hermione "B'loody Mary" Smith[]

Role[]

A Hogwarts student in the same year as Harry and Draco. She loses many points for being in Slytherin and being a vampire. 2/4

Behavior[]

The only thing indicating she is meant to be Hermione, is her backstory. Nothing in her behavior suggests she's actually the lovable and kind bookworm of the original series. 1/4

Verdict[]

1.5/4: I don't know you anymore!

My scoring system puts her barely above In Name Only, but because the name Hermione is only used once (twice if you count the troll chapter), she might actually be an Original Character. Therefore, I won't even give B'loody Mary the pleasure of resembling Hermione and subtract half a point to put her squarely in:

1/4: In Name Only

Final score[]

Plucked straight from canon!: Dobby, Fred and Gorge
Something's Off Serious Blak, Crab and Goyle, Professor McGoggle, Mr Norris and Filch the Cat, Professor Slutborn.
I don't know you anymore! Navel "Dracula", Albert Dumblydore, Cornelia Fudge, Draco Malfoy, Lucian Malfoy,

Harry "Vampire" Potter, James "Samaro" Potter, Doris Rumbridge

In Name Only Hargrid, Loopin, Hermione "B'loody Mary" Smith
