This is it, the final part in this series, in which I display my utter insanity in spending time sorting characters of a bad fanfic in how much they resemble their canon counterparts. For those of you who haven't read the previous parts, here is what I am doing; I am going to compare and score each My Immortal canon character to their Harry Potter counterparts. The score will be based on both the role of the character and their behavior. For example: if a character is a teacher in both My Immortal and Harry Potter and teaches the same subject, they will score high on the Role department.
The grades are as follows:
Plucked straight from canon!: This rating goes to characters who resemble their canon counterparts to such a degree, they might as well be directly transplanted from the original series.
Something's off: Awarded to characters who are only slightly tainted by My Immortal, but can be recognized as their canon-counterparts.
I don't know you anymore!: For characters tainted in such a way (geddit? Way as in Gerard Way) that they are no longer themselves, but still have something linking them to their canon counterparts.
In Name Only: These characters only borrow the name of their canon counterparts and have nothing in common.
In this list, I will go from S to W. Without further ado, let’s end this task I set out for me.
Snaketail[]
Role[]
He apparently killed Cedric and is one of Voldemort's servants, so there's that. However, he is sixteen instead of being in his late 30's. 3/4
Behavior[]
The original WORMtail is a cowardly excuse of a human being who would defect the moment it would be in his favor. Snaketail seems to be a loyal servant of Volzemort who courageously stood against both Enoby and Vrompire, only losing because he fell in love with Enoby. 1/4
Verdict[]
2/4: I don't know you anymore!
Snaketail is a very strange interpretation of Wormtail, whose only resemblance is him serving Voldemort, having killed Cedric and having a name that ends in -tail.
Snap[]
Role[]
Like the original, Snap is implied to be the portentz teacher and is one of Voldemorts most prominent Death Deelers. However, he transferred to being the head of Gryffindor, instead of Slytherin 3/4
Personality[]
He either seems to be a damn good actor or has a case of split personality. This is because in his first few appearances in chapters 5 to 8, he actually resembles Snape somewhat, as he lets Slytherin students off the hook far too easily, but does act rude and distant like the original would. If this was where his appearances stopped, he would probably get a 3/4 or 4/4 if I am really generous.
However, his appearances after that reveal an entirely different character. Like Loopin, Snap acts like a sexual deviant, whose sole purpose it is to portrays all kinds of morbid sexual fetishes. He also lacks any depth the original has and acts like a Saturday morning cartoon villain, who constantly executes plans to foil the "heroes". His relationships to other characters are also turned upside down. 1/4
Verdict[]
2/4: I don't know you anymore!
Snap is a case where it is evident that the more a character appears in My Immortal, the more OOC they will become. If he simply ceased appearing after chapter 8, the character would score much higher. However, the more Snap appeared, the more ridiculous he became. This, off course, isn't a bad thing per se, as Snap is one of my favorite characters in this fanfic, in terms of how ridiculous he became. I mean, if Neville Longbottom read My Immortal before facing the Boggart who took Snape's form in Prisoner of Azkaban, the Boggart would probably turn into Snap after being subjected to the Ridikulus spell. That's how ridiculous Snap is.
Voldemort/Tom Satan Bombodil[]
Role[]
The Dark Lord who wants Harry dead. However, his past self appears in the wrong generation. 3/4
Behavior[]
Like Snap, Volxemort acts like a Saturday Morning Cartoon villain who constantly executes ineffective plans to get what they want, followed by them fleeing the scene when things go south. His obsession with killing Harry also deviates from Voldemort's core character, as he would actually go after what he perceives as his biggest threat. In My Immortal, this would be Enoby, not Harry.
His past self is equally out of character. The original Tom Riddle posed as a brilliant rule-abiding student, while being the leader of a nasty group of bullies when no one was looking. Tom Satan Bombodil is a depressed goff who has sex in all the wrong places and plays in a band.
Another thing that is particularly OOC is his tendency to embrace muggle culture and technology, which the original loathed. 1/4
Verdict[]
2/4: I don't know you anymore!
Volzemort is one of Tara's more original interpretation of a canon character, who fails to resemble his canon counterpart, but succeeds in making the reader laugh in how utterly idiotic he is. He also falls in the pattern of his role being the thing that saves him from being In Name Only.
Jenny "Darkness" Weasley[]
Role[]
A hogwarts student who is related to Ron "Diabolo" Weasley. However, she is in Slytherin and also related to Crab and Goyle. Is at least half-vampire 2/4
Behavior[]
She is yet another goffic character only present to fill the ranks of Enoby's goff clique and has no discernible personality of herself. She only appears a few times, but these few appearances only show behavior of someone who is NOT Ginny. 2/4
Verdict[]
1.5/4: In Name Only
She utterly fails to resemble Ginny Weasley and the traits she is given do not relate to Ginny at all.
Mr Weasley[]
While this character never appeared in the story proper, enough of him is described to make a fair comparison.
Role[]
The father of Ron "Diabolo" and Jenny "Darkness" Weasley. However, he is also the father of Crab and Goyle and is a vampire. He fills the role of the dead parent, due to having committed suicide, while the original is pretty much alive. 2/4
Behavior[]
The original was a loving, but bumbling father. This version raped his children.... Enough said 1/4
Verdict[]
1.5/4: In Name Only
Mr Weasly only appears as a plot device to introduce more angst into the story.
Ron "Diabolo" Weasly[]
Role[]
A Hogwarts student in the same year as Harry and Draco. He loses many points for being in Slytherin. His spot as Harry's best friend is also taken away from him. 2/4
Behavior[]
Another goff to fill the ranks of the Goff clique without any discernible personality, but very few appearances. Like his sister, the few things he does are so OOC, he might as well not be Ron. 1/4
Verdict[]
1.5/4: I don't know you anymore!
The final character who is only there to fill the ranks of the goffs. A bit sad to end this list with such a whimper. But alas, this list was subject to the rules of the alphabet...
