VIOWER EXCRETION ADVISD
This article mentions several sensitive topics, including self-harm.

Wrist-Slitting is an act in which many characters in My Immortal partake. The most notable of these characters are Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way and Draco Malfoy. The process includes slashing one's wrist with a sharp object.

Role in the story[]

This is one of the actions of insanity that quite often takes place in Tara Gilesbie's story. Tara uses wrist-slitting and other forms of self-harm, depression, suicide, and murder as a plot device, rather than as serious issues that need to be addressed. However, Ebony once slit her wrists whilst excited and looking forward to a concert, therefore wrist slitting, in her view, may just be a thing goths do. Proffesor Sinister once suggests a "groop kutting session", confirming that this is apparently a recreational activity.

Though the constant wrist-slitting as depicted in My Immortal is incredibly harmful to the average human being, and the replication of it being highly discouraged in real-life, Ebony, Draco, and other goths suffer no lasting consequences from these actions. This is justified in the narrative as a mere side effect of being vampires. Strangely, however, in Chapter 10, Draco apparently dies by cutting his wrists, throwing this explanation into heavy doubt. However, the most likely explanation is that the author forgot about the aforementioned vampire rule. Also, in the author's notes, Tara mentions slitting her wrists and having to go to the hospital multiple times. It's likely that she didn't actually do this, and is instead trying to make up a 'goffik' excuse for why she was late to update.
